Always keep buttercream, mouse or anything that doesn't need to drip for decoration (such as a glaze) in the cooler for 30 minutes before using. If you still have problems, or you're running behind, place it in the freezer and reach in to add the layers, but don't keep in the freezer long.

I probably should have waited for the buttercream to be firmer before assembling the cake, because once it was done and in the fridge for a while, it was fine. I should have waited also before putting the last layer of caramelized sponge cake as it would have been easier to make something pretty.
But all in all, it was worth the effort and patience: the cake didn't look too bad and it tasted very good!

my biggest complaint about the layers was that they had to be the same size. my layers didn't slide like yours but the butter cream was xtra soft. i had to throw it in the freezer for awhile to firm up.

your end result makes it look well worth the effort tho.
