Product Review: Zola Açai Juices & Smoothies

Submitted by Nathalie on Wednesday, 8 April 2009One Comment

Zola is a brand of Brazilian juices and smoothies made from açai, an exotic berry grown in the Amazon rainforest. The company is based in San Franciso, California.

Zola

Açai berries

They grow on açai palm trees, native to tropical Central and South America, from Belize to Brazil and Peru.

The fruits are small, round and black-purple, similar in appearance and size to a grape. They are harvested twice a year as food for local populations - in the Amazon region of Brazil, açai berries are a major component of the people’s diet. The juice and pulp of açai fruits are also used in various beverages, such as Zola Superfruit Juices & Smoothies.

Zola Superfruit Juices & Smoothies

Zola’s Açai Superfruit Juices are USDA certified organic. They are made from 100% unfiltered pulp of hand-harvested organic açai berries and contains organic guarana seed for a natural energy boost.
They are available in 3 flavours: Açai Original - Açai with Pineapple - Açai with Blueberry.

Zola Superfruit Smoothies are 70% organic. They are made from Açai and other superfruits, such as acerola, camu and caja fruit, which are all rich sources of vitamin C.
They are available in 4 varieties: Immunity - Energy - Superfood - Antioxidant.

We like…

  • natural ingredients, organic juices
  • good taste  and different from traditional juices: a glass of Zola fruit juice at breakfast is a great start for the day!
  • nice bottle design

We don’t like…

  • a bit too sugary - but we’re not used to having sweet drinks
  • some juices/smoothies’ colour is rather uninviting (especially the green Superfood smoothie)

My favourites: Açai with Pineapple juice and the Energy smoothie.
My least favourite: Superfood smoothie (the taste is too “green” for a smoothie).

You can buy these drinks online for $2.99 per bottle or $29.88 for a 12-pack.
