Serial Cooking Web Application: 1st Week Report

Submitted by Nicolas on Wednesday, 21 January 20092 Comments

Hi everyone!

While you’re discovering our cooking blog and trying some recipes, we are working every night on our future social recipes sharing platform.

So, 1 week after the launch of the Serial Cooking blog, what has been done?

We are currently working on the website design, trying to find the best shape for the future product. We want to make it easy to use for everyone, and want to provide information from different sources.

What you can see on this screenshot is the main interface of the website when looking at a recipe. I know there is still a lot of work to be done, but we are quite happy with the current shape.

  • You can see that the ingredients are going to have their own space and the preparation instructions are going to be below the main image.
  • Talking about resources, we make a huge call to Flickr API and Youtube API to provide different pictures and cooking videos for the recipe you’re looking at.
  • On the left corner, you have the traditional “My account” box.
  • And on the right side you’ll find the main navigation tools of the website, driven by recipe categories and recipe colours (thanks to Nathalie for this brilliant idea).

What’s going to be on SerialCooking.com?

The main idea of the application is to share recipes with family and friends. So you’ll be able to search, add and comment recipes, but also save them in your cookbook for an easy future search.
These features should be available for the beta launch in February - do not miss the application launch and register your email address on the main page of the Serial Cooking website!

Next, we are going to add different functionalities such as a weekly cooking planner (to save the dishes you want to prepare during the week and provide you the necessary grocery list) or the chef following feature (where you’ll see the new recipes and pictures of your contacts like in your Facebook account).
These features should be available in March.

Another important characteristic, which we think will be useful for you, is the promotion of your cooking blogs through Serial Cooking.

What form does the promotion of cooking blogs take?

Each Serial Cooking user (we have to find names for them) will have a personal field, where he/she will be able to indicate the name and address of his/her blog. After validation, cooking-related articles will be announced on the Serial Cooking website and therefore shared with all the users.

In other words, by registering you will increase the visibility of your blog and attract potential readers. This is how we can help you with the promotion of your blog.

The official launch of our Serial Cooking application will happen when this feature is ready.

How can you help us?

If you want to help us, you can spread the word about this future social web application, on Twitter, Facebook, Flickr, by sending emails or paying for a message written by a plane in the sky in London (or any city you like). Our objective is to create a buzz so just talk about the Serial Cooking project!

A final word: we really believe in this application and we want to make it a success. We hope that you’ll have as much fun using it as we have developing it!
