Coming Soon: Chinese New Year
Chinese New Year will be celebrated on 26 January, and 2009 will be the year of Ox.
Chinese New Year has always been the occasion for me to eat Chinese food. Not that I don’t eat Chinese food the rest of the year, but I like preparing some traditional dishes on that particular day. Besides, when we lived in Aix-en-Provence, our apartment was situated just above a Chinese restaurant so we had the pleasure to see the whole show with dragons and fireworks - only the cat hated all the noise and used to hide until it was completely finished.
I still haven’t decided what I’m going to cook yet. We’ve tried to make a Chinese fondue a few days ago, but it was not really a success. Noodles are too common. Sushi are Japanese… I’m thinking about cooking nems and spring rolls.
Have you got any suggestion?
Are you doing to do something special for the Chinese New Year?

Why not, as a desert, some “Perles de coco” (Coco pearls ?) ?
I hate coconuts, but surprisingly, I love “Perles de Coco” !
Don’t try to understand, this is the “Cotal way” !!
Nems are delicious with the sauce, salad and minth …
well I am fond of sushies - i konw you both too
do you have any good books to learn how to make sushies and other makis?
I know sushies are japanese not chinese, but it’s the chinese’s fault if I am confused since almost all japanese restaurant are owned by poor illegal chinese imigrants.
if no sushis plan comes up, I’ll go to the super U next door and will buy froozen chinese food. Or not.
but still I am looking for a good chinese grocery store.
I got addicted to chinese food with a former teammate of mine which dragged me to a small, smelly and strange chinese store but there i found tresures that i used during months.
here in my no-man land there is nothing except for a kind of asiatic restaurant which costs an arm (”ca coûte un bras” for the people who do not speak the “south of france”).
if you have any asiatic on line website, then give me your tips nath
Unfortunately I don’t know any Asian food website… But if I find one, I’ll let you know.
