January: Overview of Seasonal Food

Submitted by Nathalie on Thursday, 8 January 20092 Comments

January is supposed to be, on average, the coldest month of the year in the Northern Hemisphere. It may be right if we look at what happened yesterday in Marseilles, France…

Beautiful isn’t it?

Yet, January in the UK offers a variety of fruits, vegetables and fishes. Let’s have a look at what you will be able to find on the markets’ stalls.

Fruits

  • Apples - Pears
  • Lemon - Oranges - Clementines - Tangerines
  • Kiwifruits - Passion fruits - Pineapples - Pomegranates

Vegetables

  • Sprouts - Cauliflowers - Kale
  • Celeriac - Celery
  • Parsnips - Swedes - Turnips - Beetroots
  • Artichokes - Leeks
  • Potatoes - Chicory - Sweet potatoes

Fish & Seafood

  • Haddock - Hake - Halibut - John Dory - Lemon Sole - Monkfish - Plaice - Turbot
  • Lobster - Mussels - Oysters

With all these ingredients, you will be able to make delicious soups and deserts to keep warm… Don’t hesitate to suggest and share your ideas!
